The old heroes of Son are back
Since the 1930s, the Buena Vista district of Havana has been a synonym for a focal point of Cuban musical tradition. There are a few traditional compositions which deal with this district and its inspiring effect on the musicians of past generations.
LIVE FROM BUENA VISTA – THE HAVANA LOUNGE - gives an insight into the wide range of the traditional styles of the Son which came together again in a kind of melting pot in and around Buena Vista.
Chan Chan as well as Son classics and other new compositions yet unknown in Europe are performed in a large original line up. THE HAVANA LOUNGE is a union of Top Stars of Havana’s traditional music scene, many of them are also well known in Europe already.
The top stars are: Lazara Cachao who, joined many worlwide tours with the“Buena Vista Social Club” . With Yarin Oviedo participates the youngest percussion player of the “Afro Cuban All stars“ and a “wizard” of Percussions and Timbales. The singer Evelio Galan is one of the most impressive Singers from the “Afro Cuban All Stars” brim-full of this special esprit between a sparkling flame and a tender Cuban Cigar smoke. He also worked with Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Secundo and many other Top Stars of the Cuban music scene for many years. In addition there are Amik Guerra, trumpeter from “Buena Vista Social Club”, Alberto “Molote” Munoz , tromboneplayer from the “Afro Cuban All Stars” and the “Buena Vista Social Club.” as well as the Singer Jose Jill Pineda, from the “Afro Cuban All Stars”..
This constellation is joined by young musicians whose dedicated their musically skills to traditional music. On balance the spectator who listens to the “LIVE FROM BUENA VISTA – THE HAVANA LOUNGE” experiences the ultimate in acoustic, handmade music. The particular appeal of the music seems to be that the blend of cultures forming the Cuban identity are mirrored in Son and woven together in the most virtuoso fashion.
